A professional decorating company aimed to make this holiday season a little brighter for military families by donating Christmas decorations to more than 30 families of deployed servicemembers.
Christmas Decor, a Texas-based company that specializes in designing and installing outdoor holiday decorations, chose the families from more than 200 applicants across the country and gave them a customized decoration display, said Brandon Stephens, director of marketing for Christmas Decor.
This is the first time Christmas Decor has sponsored a program like this, but it's one that all the company's franchises immediately supported, Stephens said.
"It doesn't really matter what side of the political fence you're on, everybody recognizes that these people are making a sacrifice – not just the soldiers, but the families as well," he said. "We wanted to help by providing support and trying to do something to make the holidays a little nicer."
The Christmas Decor staff will install and take down each family's customized decoration display, Stephens said. In most cases, the displays will be taken down in early January, he said, but the company did approve one request to leave decorations up through the end of January by a woman whose husband would be returning from deployment.
The company would like this program to expand to include 100 or more families per year, Stephens said.
"We'd love to do everybody's house, but we just can't," he said.
The application for next year's holiday season will be available in August on the Christmas Decor Web site, Stephens said. Applicants have to give some basic information and write a short essay about why they would like the decorations, he said.
